:: What is the Scholarship House?
The Scholarship House is an organization that wants to help foster youth, and others with little support, continue their education past high school.  We’re brand new and we’re excited about the year ahead.  Just think- this is your chance to be a trail blazer!

:: Why do these youth have such a difficult time going onto their postsecondary ed.?
Frequent school changes, not having anyone to oversee the process and lack of information are some of the biggest challenges facing these youth in applying for postsecondary education programs.   Matched with emotional and developmental challenges, the already over whelming task of applying for college and being on your own can seem impossible.

:: Why were those programs chosen?
Scholarship House founders believe in the power of education and the opportunities that education provides.   With this is mind, and in researching the staggering statistics of foster care youth and education, Scholarship House was dedicated to helping foster youth continue their education.  These programs were modeled after promising and effective practices already out there such as Casey’s It’s Your Life and Connected By 25’s recommendations and program outlines.

:: Why should I apply for this program?
Free money, amazing opportunities, a support network and oh, did we mention- FREE MONEY?!  Seriously, you will have the opportunity to travel to regional and state conferences, have a support network, receive assistance with financial aid and academic counseling issues and be able to participate in a savings account program where your savings are matched by the Scholarship House.  You can take out of your Scholarship House experience what you want- it’s all up to you.

We have other programs you can participate in as well.

:: What is expected of me?  What are the requirements?
Basically you are expected to participate in some of the other programming (like classes on how to start your own business and be your own boss) and in general be a good roommate by helping around the Scholarship House.  See the other side of this page for application and program requirements.

:: What schools participate with the Scholarship House and why?

  • Gordon College- two year college, Barnesville, GA, www.gdn.edu
  • Valdosta State University- four year college, Valdosta, GA, www.valdosta.edu
  • University of West Georgia- four year college, Carrollton, GA.  www.westga.edu

We wanted to start Scholarship House with a variety of schools and it was important to have campuses that could facilitate this kind of program.  All three colleges are members of the State University System of Georgia and each is unique in what they offer in degrees and campus life.  Applicants are responsible for applying to the individual college and should also seek out other housing options.

Our other programs will start in the metro Atlanta area and then expand through the state.

:: How can I get involved?
