Mission:
To provide housing assistance, additional resources and a support network to foster youth aging out and continuing their education.
Programs:
Scholarship Housing
Scholarship housing on or within walking distance to campus will be established at various campuses across the state. The housing will be single sexed and “dorm style” in that the rooms will be shared and the housing will be furnished. Students will apply for the housing and must also participate in shared chores around the house, life skills classes, including financial literacy and community service. There will be a minimum deposit due at the beginning of the academic year.
Housing Scholarships
Housing scholarships will be granted for a limited amount of students. Amount of scholarship will vary and must be able to be written directly to the residential facility. Students must maintain a minimum GPA to continue to receive the scholarship.
Home for the Holidays
Working with local apartments, residential facilities and the community including the faith based community, Home for the Holidays will provide housing over school breaks to foster care and former foster care youth who would otherwise have no where else to stay.
Education Mentor
The Education Mentor will serve as an additional resource for foster care students in the 9th grade or older. The Education Mentor will work specifically with postsecondary education goals and how those goals relate to their high school education and experience. They will work with youth in outlining their specific goals, the steps needed to get there, the resources available to them and the needs they will have to meet.
